The person that we read of in this verse of scripture is the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God. The Lord Jesus Christ took upon Him the form of a man and entered into to this world through the miraculous virgin birth. The books of Mathew, Mark Luke and John record many of the details of the life of the Lord Jesus Christ - from the miracles he wrought to the parables he spoke. However, one thing that stands out about the Lord Jesus Christ, marking Him out from all other human beings, was the fact that he led a sinless life. He could not sin - the Lord Jesus Christ was God in the flesh.
"This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." The Bible, 1 Timothy chapter 1 verse 15 The place that we read of in this verse is the world in which we live. A world that has in it many people, all of whom face problems and difficulties from day to day. This is the world that God in Heaven created in perfection. But it is also a world which is ruined by sin because of Adam's disobedience in the Garden of Eden. From that point in time onwards sin had entered into the world and the Bible makes it clear that we are all sinners - everyone in this world without exception. Sin has wreaked havoc across this world in many people's lives. But most importantly that sin in our lives has caused us to be separated from a Holy God, who cannot tolerate sin. You might wonder why that God should send His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, into this sinful world, why He should leave the splendour of Heaven?
"This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." The Bible, 1 Timothy chapter 1 verse 15 The people that we read of in this verse are sinners. "Who might that be?", I hear you ask. The answer is you and me. Everyone in this world is a sinner. There are no exceptions. It does matter what your social position is in life. It does not matter how educated you might be. It does not matter how much money you have. It does not matter how good or how bad you might be. The Bible tells us that every single one of us are sinners and as we have already said when sin entered into the world through Adam, that sin caused us to be separated by from a Holy God. If I am a sinner what hope have I and how can I be reconciled to God?
"This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." The Bible, 1 Timothy chapter 1 verse 15 So far we have established that the Lord Jesus Christ, came to this world for sinners. What was His purpose? Our verse makes this abundantly clear- the Lord Jesus Christ came into this world to save sinners. Earlier we said that the sin in each of our lives separates us from a Holy God. That separation will be eternal, that is, it will last forever unless we are reconciled to God. God moved in tremendous love and mercy towards a world of sinners lost in sending His precious Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, into this world that we might be reconciled to Him. However, there was a price which had to be paid for our sins before the gulf between God and man could be bridged and the Lord Jesus Christ bore that price for sin when He bore God's wrath as He hung and died on the cross at Calvary's hill outside of Jerusalem. But the Lord Jesus Christ lives. He rose from the dead three days after He died and He reigns in Heaven at God's right hand making intercession for those who trust in Him. Evil men may have thought that they took the Lord Jesus Christ's life, but they did not. He laid down His life voluntarily paying the price for your sin and mine and He took His life up again as He rose from the dead.
